Dea Music Academy was founded in 2013 by Alda Dizdari, a concert violinist still active in the international scene. (www.aldadizdari.com) She has worked closely with “Dea” Music and Art School in New York. Inspired by the immense positive impact of Dea studios in New York, Alda Dizdari decided to open a similar community hub in the heart of London’s borough of Southwark.
The academy is a non for profit organisation. Thanks to grants awarded by Southwark Council and The London Community Foundation the school has been able to offer affordable tuition to underprivileged children and to help them integrate into the community.
The Academy was launched with a concert and party at the Mernier Gallery at the Chocolate Factory near Borough Market in SE1. The Music Academy welcomes students of all ages and offers individual classes and lessons in pairs on instruments: Piano, Violin, Guitar and Voice as well as Group Theory Classes. Some of the leading performers are offering their professional skills to bring music into the lives of children in the area of Southwark. The academy offers regular public performances and workshops throughout London’s main concert halls.
