10 LAST MINUTE DIY HALLOWEEN COSTUME IDEAS FOR KIDS

It’s already October meaning that Halloween is just weeks away! It can be a lot of fun but it can also mean extra stress and a lot of unnecessary expenses for parents.

Our reader already knows we are all for creative approach in everything kids do and this seasonal celebration is no exception.

Halloween is a great time to engage your kid in a creative activity and spend fruitful quality time with them.  Kids can let their imagination run wild, decide and design what they want to wear and even make their costumes  from scratch, themselves or with a little help from mommy and daddy!

The result might not be the neatest costume at the party but sure it will be something  unique and a great memory to look back to for the kids as well as for parents.

To encourage you to make an outfit with your kid this Halloween we have made a list of 10 DIY costume ideas:

halloween kid mummy costume

Mummy

Mummy is one of the most popular outfits, kids love it and it’s easy to make! All you’ll need is white fabric, old sheet will do perfectly. Cut it into stripes or rip it for more bandage like edge. Wrap the stripes around body and head.  Make knots now and then for a more natural look. For more “dirty” look you can dye the stripes with tea. For kids’ costume take a couple of teabags put them in a bowl full with hot water and dip the stripes in. Stir and let them steep for about 30 minutes to an hour. Dry the bandages and start wrapping. Make sure you fasten the ends of bandages in a way that’s comfortable for child and allows movement. Apply some light makeup to make your little mummy look centuries old. We advise to wear white leggings and long sleeved shirt under the bandages in case some parts show through.

pirate halloween costume

Pirate

To make a pirate costume you’ll need an oversized t-shirt you’re ready to part your ways with and some scissors. Remember, being a pirate is all about being tough. A t-shirt that’s too big will communicate the idea of jagged sloppiness perfectly.

Cut off neckline, sleeves and the hem of the t-shirt. Make small holes around neck and sleeves for believable impression of ruggedness. It’s a good thing if your t-shirt is striped, if not, no worries, you can paint on some stripes using fabrics paint. Make the stripes blue, just like the sea, arrrr

Scuba Diver

Additionally to making an excellent outfit this option is a great way to recycle undesirable items.

You’ll need two 1.5 or 2 l soda plastic bottles, a piece of cardboard, string & some glue! Remove any labels from the bottles and glue them vertically to a square cardboard. Make holes for string on both ends of the cardboard parallel and under each other. Regulate the string’s length so the whole construction sits like a backpack. Add  flippers and diving glasses to your all black outfit and get ready for descent into the unknown waters and tons of candy!

Grapes

This last choice is definitely for the last minute!

It’s exactly what you imagined – a bunch of green or purple balloons sticking on clothes. If you are looking for a challenge to make it even more complicated you can just add a green accessory for the leaves. Draw and cut out leaves from regular green paper. This might not be the most creative  costume at the party but hey, popping balloons is so much fun!
