ABRSM is the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music. We are a charity committed to supporting and inspiring people to progress with music. We support high-quality music-making and learning around the world. We encourage students to build skills, knowledge and understanding incrementally to help them unlock their musical potential, whatever their background and whatever part they wish music to play in their lives. We want everyone to be able to develop musical skills and fulfil their potential with music. We believe that access to high-quality, progressive music learning is the right of everyone.
Dea aims to bring the power of music to all age groups and level abilities. Our music curriculum follows the guidelines and requirements of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) in London, the leading authority in musical assessment. Young students start with a relaxed repertoire filled with fun, easy tunes with which they may already recognise. As they grow and progress, they start to work with the ABRSM exam grades 1 through 8. A student is taught the grade that best suits their ability, and may even skip a grade.
Why do we adhere so strongly to the guidelines of the ABRSM? They provide our teachers and students with a solid curriculum from which they can gain the most of their musical education. The ABRSM Exam is designed to provide an examination curriculum to motivate students to make the most of their education as well as evaluate the progress they have made so far. Levels 7 and 8 also offer credits towards college and the test also prepares the student for the college process itself. The student gets a taste of the effort required to do well in such examinations and becomes more well-rounded as a result of this exposure. ABRSM offers tests in all instruments we offer here: piano, violin, guitar, and voice.
As instrumental skills progress, development in music theory and musicianship becomes increasingly important in helping students perform with sensitivity, confidence, and understanding. Reading, writing, and understanding music correctly is a learning process that should be encouraged from an early age. At Dea, we are committed to providing these skills at the highest standards. ABRSM’s Music Theory Exams give students a well-rounded understanding of the music they play, starting with the basics of rhythm and notes and going on to cover harmony, counterpoint, and compositional skills. Students also develop a general knowledge of famous composers along with their works and influences in music. Theory classes are scheduled throughout the week. Call for info on time and day.
Dea Studios work with professionals who have a passion for teaching and sharing music to all ages. All our teachers have graduate degrees in music education and are active performers in their spare times. Their passion and drive in their musical fields leave our students with a well-rounded knowledge of music and their instrument.
We teach our students music sonatas and rhapsodies in their classical form, but we also teach pieces that revolutionized those classical forms- Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, Santana’s guitar solos, Gershwin’s songs… This is our main focus at Dea and our promise to all our students; to teach music that has stood the test of time.
