Do you offer piano lessons in all Staten Island Locations?
Yes, we offer piano, guitar and violin lessons, music theory and musical theater classes at all of our Staten Island branches.
At what age do you start teaching individual music classes for kids? voice lessons?
We start teaching piano lessons at 3 years old, and all other instrumental lessons at 4 years and older. Children can start voice lessons at 5 years old.
When is a child too old to start taking music lessons?
We at Dea believe that it’s never too late for taking up music classes. But the most productive time to start instrumental lessons such as piano, violin and guitar is 4 years, vocal lessons 4 years old.
What other music instruments do you teach at Dea? Are you considering offering more music programs at Staten Island locations?
At both of our Staten Island locations we teach piano, violin, guitar and voice. At North Gannon location we also offer woodwinds instruments.
All our piano classes are taught on upright or grand pianos.
How do I know what size instrument to pick for my child’s music lessons ?
We can help determine the size once your child has taken a trial class at our music school. You can sign up for a free trial class here.
Are music lessons taught one-to-one or in a group? How about art classes? Acting classes?
Most of our instrumental classes are taught one to one. We offer piano group classes for ages 3 and 4 only but those classes can start only in September or October. We also offer piano partners. If we can group 2 students of same age and level we’ll start a piano partners class if this is being requested.
Our Art classes and musical theater classes are all group classes.
What qualifications do your music teachers have?
All music teachers at Dea have music degrees and are NYS certified.
Do you teach Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Grades?
Yes, we do. Music students at Dea work with the ABRSM exam grades 1 through 8. Every student is taught the grade that best suits his/her ability, and may even skip a grade.
What styles of music do you teach?
We teach all styles of music. However we believe that the right foundation is built through studying classical music. Once an advance level is reached then any style will be easily mastered.
Do you offer trial classes?
Yes, we do. You can sign up for a free trial class on our homepage.
Do you offer a summer camps?
We offer very popular summer programs for kids. Our summer camps consist of music instrument lessons in the instrument of choice, art lessons, painting drawing paper mache, music theater, acting games, watching plays, singing and acting.For more information take a look here.

Do you teach notes and reading & writing music in addition to playing the instrument?
Yes, we do. Basic music theory classes are incorporated in the individual instrumental class. When needed we will set up individual theory classes for students who are working toward their ABRSM exams.
What skills will my child learn in your visual art classes?
Our visual art lessons include color theory, composition, visual narrative, observational drawing, and painting, and constructing in three-dimensional space.
Can children with disabilities attend your art and music classes?
Yes, some of our music and art teachers also have degree in special ed.
Where do your music & art camps for kids take place?
Dea music and art camps are held indoors at our facilities in Staten Island.

We are the only music and art school in Staten Island that is dedicated to teaching music and art and providing a strong foundation. We do not sell instruments.We focus on teaching and provide strong musical and artistic education that will further enhance and compliment general education of children of all ages.
Will children have opportunity to perform in front of a crowd?
Yes, we have a big recital at the end of the school every school year. Often we have more than one performance during the year. Our students have the opportunity to play and sing solo and/or as a group what they have learned in their music classes. Musical theater class showcase their work with a production on stage. Art students present their work at the end of year performance.
What levels of french classes do you offer at Staten Island locations?
We teach all levels, adults included. French language classes are currently only available at North Gannon Branch in Staten Island.
Do you offer individual guitar lessons?
Yes, we offer individual guitar lessons as well as an opportunity for our students to “jam” with fellow guitarists while learning songs from classic rock. This specialized course introduces young guitarists to improvisation techniques and teaches them to listen to other people as well as themselves in order to improve in their trade.
My child is already taking piano lessons. Will adding a second instruments be too much?
Piano is considered to be best choice for first instrument. Piano lessons provide basic musical skills that prove to be helpful when picking up any additional instrument.
