Brendan Cowan is a Classical Guitarist from Staten Island, New York. He made his professional debut at Merkin Concert Hall as a guitarist for the New York Festival of Song, performing the premiere of a piece written for tenor and guitar by Clarice Assad. Accolades include First Prize in the Soloist Competition held at the International Seminar of Guitar in Fortaleza, Brazil – and First Prize in the Concerto Competition hosted by the Eleazar de Carvalho Music Festival. He will also be a semifinalist in the 2018 Wilson Center Guitar Competition, and is recording for an upcoming revival of Camilia; The Musical.
Brendan holds a Bachelors in Music from Purchase College, and is continuing his graduate studies at CUNY Hunter, with support from the Esther Hoffman Graduate Scholarship. He is currently a student of João Luiz, and has participated in masterclasses given by internationally acclaimed guitarists such as Frederic Hand, Alice Artzt, Fabio Zanon, and Paulo Bellinati.
As a music teacher, Brendan has give instruction at schools such as DEA Music and Art School, and Stamford Music and Arts Academy. He also plays electric guitar in an alternative rock band active in New York City and Westchester County.
