Julia Freitor

Julia Freitor was born and raised in Former USSR (Baku, Azerbaijan), where she started her music education from a very young age of 4 years old. She attended Azerbaijan State Conservatory Music School, studying piano, music theory, music history, composition, solfeggio, choral conducting and other musical disciplines along the general education classes. Upon the graduation, she received Diploma of Accompanist in Piano Major.

Julia started singing professionally at the age of 13, when she was invited to perform as a singer soloist at the Azerbaijan State TV & Radio Orchestra. As part of the orchestra, she toured and recorded for radio and TV shows. While still being a student, Julia participated in numerous singing competitions while being a winner of several.

After graduation, Julia moved to Saint Petersburg, Russia, to study Music Theater (voice major) in a Creative Art Studio of SP “State Music Hall.” While being a student there, Julia was invited to participate in the Music Hall’s shows. Living in Saint Petersburg, Julia performed with several bands and orchestras of Saint Petersburg and Moscow, leading a very active singing life along her involvement in various TV and Radio shows. She participated and became a winner/special award holder of several Russia’s singing competitions, including the most popular at the time, National Contest for Young Voices – Jurmala-88, where out of hundreds of young singers she had finished among the top five prizewinners. Later on, Julia got to perform at biggest National venues and arenas in Moscow, like Kremlin, “Luzhniki” Stadium, the Concert Hall “Russia,”  The House of the Unions, The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, and more.

A year later, Julia was invited to participate in a musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” that was staged on Saint Petersburg’s “Rock Opera Theater,” where she was given a role of Mary Magdalene. Julia also got involved in several other musicals at the same theater. She was touring with the “Rock Opera Theater,” while having studio sessions to record new materials.

Having such a tense working schedule, Julia, nevertheless, continued her education and obtained Associate degree in Direction of Theatrical and Concert Performances (Saint Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts, 1990).

A year later, Julia signed a contract to perform in Israel. At the end of her contract, she was offered a role of Sarah Brown in Broadway musical “Guys and Dolls.” She was chosen for that role among 70 candidates. The musical “Guys and Dolls” was the first production of such magnitude that was staged in Israel in Hebrew language. This musical made such an impact on Israeli Cultural life, that Julia, being played the mane role in it, received a certificate that the Fund Keren Kayemeth in Israel had planted a tree in her honor.

Julia continued performing as a solo artist in Israel. She recorded two music projects for Poland and Germany, performed at several TV shows, and toured Israel and Europe with concerts. In 1993, she won a Grand Prize at “First Israeli Contest of Performing Arts.” The same year she was chosen to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Ireland and broadcasted to nearly 800 million people over the world.

In 1995, Julia was invited to “Big Apple” Music Festival in New York City, where she got a special award. In 1996, Julia moves with her family to New York to promote her singing career, and got to perform in various events and concerts all over the United States.

While in the US, Julia started her Private Vocal coaching and Private Piano teaching, while still performing and recording. Julia worked and is still working as a recording studio artist for various projects like solo and back up vocals, voice-overs, radio adds, etc. Part of Julia’s studio work is vocal arrangements. She sings in various languages – English, Russian, Hebrew, Spanish and French. She obtained her double major Bachelor degree (Bachelor of Art and Bachelor in Music Education) in 2011, and Master degree in MA in Music Education (2013) from Brooklyn College Music Conservatory. Currently, Julia is providing private vocal and piano instructions to all ages, and continues her singing career, working in recording studios and performing at different events all over the world.
