Adult Online Music Classes

The Group Adult Beginner Piano Course will give you a broad overview of how to approach music, with a significant amount of practical application. In eight weeks, we will cover the main aspects of music fundamentals: how to read music; interpreting and writing rhythms;  understanding the keyboard; practice and performance techniques; and scales. If time permits, we may even cover some basic music theory and ear training. By the end of the course, you will be able to confidently read and play several songs from real sheet music. 

The Group Adult Beginner Guitar Course will give you a broad overview of how to approach music, with a significant amount of practical application. In eight weeks, we will cover the main aspects of music fundamentals: how to read music; interpreting and writing rhythms;  understanding the fretboard; practice and performance techniques; and scales. If time permits, we may even cover some basic music theory and ear training. By the end of the course, you will be able to confidently read and play several songs from real sheet music. 

The Group Adult Beginner Songwriting/Composition Workshop will provide a broad overview of how to approach songwriting, and music composition, in all musical styles. In eight weeks, you will explore the fundamental aspects of effective music making: rhythm, melody/lyricism, harmony, timbre, and orchestration/arranging. Every week you, or a classmate, are invited to volunteer an original song, or composition, for class comment and constructive critique. Exact topics covered will be determined by the needs of the current students. By the end of this course, you will have a better understanding of how to approach songwriting and composition as it pertains to your musical voice and goals.

The Group Adult Music Survey Class is a course for those who want to broaden their understanding of how to listen to music, and where that music comes from. Starting from classical music, the survey will cover the main musical movements up to the present day. Listening assignments will comprise the majority of the “work” for this course. Genres such as rock, pop, bossa nova, hip hop, classical, and jazz will become more familiar as you understand the purpose and context of each of these styles. When listening to music, having an informed ear can make all the difference.
